We all admire self-confident people since they like taking risks and face their worries head on. They also respect themselves and are optimistic. Low self-esteem is not permanent; you can slowly change how you feel about yourself by applying basic tips on a daily basis.
“If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.” Vincent Van Gogh
Here is a list of 5 easy steps to enhance your self-confidence.
1. Avoid Negativity and Stay Positive
If you hang around friends and family that do not see things in positive light, it is time you took a break from them. Avoid people who put you down and embrace positive enthusiasm in your interactions with others. Learn to focus on solutions rather than problems in your life and you will gradually make positive changes. Also, practice positive self-talk and your feelings about self will improve and enable you to face your obstacles without much hesitation.
2. Eliminate Negative Voices in your Head
This is related to the first step. Your thoughts become your reality. Negative thoughts in our minds shred our self-confidence and discourage us from facing daily obstacles. If you think that you are not good enough and keep on bashing yourself, be mindful, as this may become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Learn to appreciate who you are and switch from negative to positive thoughts until you boost your self-esteem.
3. Enhance your Body Language
You not only need to feel confident on the inside, but you also need to show it to those you interact with. Smiling makes you feel better and lets people feel comfortable around you. Pulling your shoulders back creates the impression that you are confident. Practice to look at people straight into the eyes, and they will believe in whatever you have to say. Research shows that people who take the time to speak feel more confident and appear to have a high self-assurance than those who do not.
4. Believe that you are Competent
Always remind yourself of the problems you have encountered and tackled in the past. Learn to face new challenges and prove to yourself that you can rather than saying to yourself you cannot. Whenever you face a challenge you cannot deal with, try to reach out for help. This improves your capabilities and encourages you to face challenges head-on. Concentrate on your successes no matter how modest they are and keep a mental note. Besides, learn to give yourself some credit whenever you solve a task.
5. Avoid comparing yourself to others
Rather than comparing your worth to others, focus on your niche and appreciate the things you are good at. Everyone is great at something and comparing your worth to others only shreds your self-esteem. Focus on your strengths, and your self-confidence will grow. Also, learn new stuff and develop your competencies and value.
Learn to face your fears and apply the above steps daily to boost your self-confidence.
